Subtle nods to the games that are loved by everyone
While my main work was to focus on creating clean, scalable gameplay systems, I could not resist adding a bit of personality to the project. As a game developer and gamer myself, I appreciate it when games have subtle references, and I wanted to leave my small mark in this game's world.
So, I added two references to classic games—both in plain sight:
Reference 1 – CSGO's Dust2 Football
In the multiplayer lobby, there's a small football at the centre of the lobby. This is a direct call-out to the football on T-spawn of Counter-Strike: Global Offensive's Dust2 map. As someone who's spent hours playing CSGO, this small interactive prop was a fun touch—and an understated reference that players of Dust2 might pick up on immediately.
Reference 2 – Rocket League's Arena Look
The entire lobby map itself is a low-poly soccer stadium, a reference to Rocket League's visuals and design. While our gameplay is very different, the idea of co-op vehicular action in a soccer-themed arena made this an enjoyable, indirect tribute to one of the most recognizable vehicle based games on the market.
